“Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage 2026 – Leading for Joy

From Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August, young pilgrims gathered at Walsingham for the 2026 Youth Pilgrimage, exploring the theme “Gaudete – Leading for Joy.”
Every year we raise money in support of local young people travelling to the annual Youth Pilgrimage at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, Norfolk.

The pilgrimage began with the campsite taking shape and the welcome of around 350 young pilgrims. On the opening evening, the image of Our Lady was brought into the Big Top, where pilgrims were introduced to the theme of joy before taking part in their First Visit to the Holy House – setting the tone for a week of prayer, reflection, fellowship and celebration..

Throughout the week, the pilgrims explored stories from Scripture and reflected on where joy can be found in their own lives. Tuesday began with Bible Studies focusing on the Wedding at Cana, considering how Christ brought joy to the wedding feast and how he continues to bring joy into our lives. This was followed by Mass, where Fr Ben Jennings reflected on the theme and reminded pilgrims that the joy of Christ is especially experienced through the community of the Church and in a shared celebration of the liturgy.

The pilgrimage was not only a time of prayer and spiritual reflection, but also a wonderful opportunity for friendship, laughter and shared experiences. A wide range of activities brought plenty of energy and excitement to the week, including a climbing wall, bubble football, an ice-cream van and much more. These moments of fun and fellowship helped create the strong sense of community that is such an important part of the Youth Pilgrimage..
