Celebrating the impact of the Educational Foundation Grants for Schools and Academies

The original funding—made possible through the will of Archbishop Robert Holgate, founder of the Almshouses—led to the creation of the Educational Foundation, which continues to support schools and academies across our area of benefit.

Through this enduring legacy, the Foundation has partnered with schools to fund a wide variety of projects that have enhanced pupils’ learning journeys across the curriculum. These initiatives have supported the personal development of children and young people, the professional growth of educators, and the delivery of key educational programmes.

The Educational Grants for Schools and Academies have played a significant role in shaping the experiences and outcomes of pupils, particularly in areas where national data highlights significant need. From early years to secondary education, these grants have enriched learning opportunities, broadened horizons, and strengthened educational equity.

The Foundation’s investment has helped pupils to:

  • Develop key cognitive, physical, and interpersonal skills
  • Engage in meaningful learning beyond the classroom
  • Explore digital learning and innovation
  • Experience values-based education grounded in character and aspiration

These experiences not only support immediate achievement but also equip young people to face future challenges with confidence and resilience.

We remain deeply grateful for the Christian philanthropic vision of Archbishop Robert Holgate and the enduring impact of his legacy—one that has continued to resonate in the local community for more than 500 years.
