Celebrating academic success
Investing in the Professionals of the Future
The Archbishop Holgate Hospital Educational Foundation takes great pride in continuing the legacy of Christian philanthropist Robert Holgate. In his will, Holgate set out a clear duty of care—to reach out to those in need in and around his birthplace in Yorkshire.
Born on a local farm in 1481, Holgate rose to become a Gilbertine monk, a learned man, and a senior servant of the monarch, ultimately serving as Archbishop of York and administering the north of England. He understood both the value and the cost of compassion, and the provision he made in his will stands as a lasting testament to that understanding.
Today, the beneficiaries of our educational grants continue to affirm the powerful difference this support makes. These grants often reach individuals and communities that public funding struggles to serve, providing transformative opportunities that shape careers, character, and contribution.
Grant recipients frequently speak of how the Foundation’s support has played a strategic role in their future—opening doors, removing barriers, and helping them to thrive in their chosen paths.
💬 What our graduates have to say…
” Firstly I want to start off with thank you! I’m so appreciative that I was chosen for this grant as it really has helped me a lot! having this grant has allowed me to live in Leeds while studying
This grant has also helped tremendously in the current climate with the cost of living crisis and will continue to help me in the future
I honestly can’t thank you all enough for allowing me to have this grant, for someone like me from an underprivileged background it has been such an amazing help, and I hope the scheme continues in the future as I know it will help more people like me “
